Gramprey's Game-Winner Lifts Merrimack to Doubletree Classic Title
COLCHESTER, VT – The Merrimack women's soccer team
finished the Doubletree Soccer Classic at Saint Michael's
College with a convincing 2-0 win over Concordia University on
Saturday at Saint Michael's College.
Senior captain Gabrielle Gramprey (Brockton,
MA) notched her third goal of the season and game-winning
goal just minutes into the first half before freshman Jenn
Pino (North Andover, MA) tallied a goal in the waning
minutes of the second half.
Leaving Vermont with a 1-0-1 record, coach
Gabe Mejail remarked on how tough
his Warriors played over the weekend.
“We played extremely hard and with a lot of intensity,”
Mejail said. “There are still a lot of things to fix in terms
of our movement and gelling, but it looks like we have a good
foundation. We definitely have a difference-maker in Gabrielle
Gramprey with another game-winning goal today."
As for the newcomers, Mejail also felt confident in their
strides.
“Overall, [the freshmen] stepped in and worked hard.
There's a lot of pressure on them and they're
responding in various levels,” Mejail said. “Going
forward, once they get a handle on what they have to do, we should
improve quickly.”
The Warrior women resume play on Wednesday, September 2 versus
non-conference opponent, New York Institute of Technology at home
(4:00pm).
