Women's Soccer Downs #10 Adelphi, 2-1
GARDEN CITY, NY – Wasting little time against #10 Adelphi
University (6-3, 5-3 NE-10), sophomore Kara Hennigan
(Pawtucket, RI) scored less than three minutes into a 2-1
win for the Merrimack women's soccer Warriors (7-2-1, 4-2
NE-10) on Sunday afternoon.
Adding a goal for the Warriors was junior Jessie DeGraan
(Braintree, MA) in the 38th minute from freshman
Marissa Gambale (Swampscott, MA).
Senior captain Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton,
CT) made three saves, including a penalty shot, in a game
the Warriors were out-shot by the Panthers, 12-7.
In a wet and windy day in Garden City, Head Coach Gabe
Mejail described the game as their best overall
“team win” this season.
“Even with the injuries we had to deal with, we had players
step up big today,” Mejail said. “Even though Jessie
DeGraan put us over the top with our second goal, she played an
even better game on the defensive end, marking Adelphi's best
offensive player.”
The Warrior women return to action at Warrior Field against the
Penmen of Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, September 30 at
7:00pm.
