Volleyball Downs UMass Lowell, Holy Family Friday
BRIDGEPORT, CT – Junior Molly Cindric (Westlake
Village, CA) posted 33 kills in two matches, leading the
Merrimack volleyball team to wins over UMass Lowell and Holy Family
at the Bridgeport Tournament Friday.
In a four-game (25-20, 25-17, 15-25, 25-14) victory over Lowell,
the Warriors took advantage of 10 River Hawk attack errors and
escaped with the 25-20 victory, despite hitting just .024.
After taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 victory in the second game,
Lowell hit .269 in the third game to keep the match alive, before
the Warriors posted their best game on the match, getting 18 kills
in the 25-14 fourth-game victory.
Cindric tallied her first double-double of the season on 16 kills
and 12 digs. Elyse Lorenz (Frankfurt, IL) added
her first double-double with 38 assists and 11 digs to go with a
game-high five aces. Also in double-digits for digs were
Alyssa Pickert (Tinley Park, IL) (18 digs),
Heidi Wroblicky (Irvine, CA) (12 digs), and
Natalee Yeazle (Blaine, MN) (13 digs).
Yeazle tallied a team-high five block assists, as the Warriors had
eight team blocks in all.
“It was another step in the right direction for our young
team,” said head coach Joey Pacis.
“The difference today against a very good Lowell team was
serving. We got some easy points from the service line. Our two
non-starting middles are starting to come along and contribute
significantly. Overall, we had a solid performance, and I hope to
continue it through the weekend.”
In the second match, the Warriors blanked Holy Family 3-0 with game
scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-18.
Merrimack came out strong, registering 28 kills to just 11 attack
errors in the first two games to take a controlling 2-0 advantage.
They wrapped it up in the third, converting on 78% of their
sideouts.
Cindric hit .400 in the match and added six digs, while Lorenz
added another 32 assists. Pickert picked up 20 of the team's
50 digs and posted a team-high three aces.
The Warriors (3-1) conclude tournament action Saturday against
Caldwell (3 p.m.) and Bridgeport (7 p.m.).
