NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The Merrimack women's soccer team held off Southern Connecticut State for a 1-0 victory on Senior Day at Warrior Field. The Warriors improved to 11-4-2 overall and 10-3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Owls fell to 8-5-3 on the year and 6-5-3 in the league with the loss.

Merrimack controlled a 1-0 lead at halftime on Jenn Pino's (North Andover, Mass.) fourth score of the season. Pino slammed home a loose ball from a cross by Jessie DeGraan (Braintree, Mass.). The Warriors nearly owned a two-goal advantage at the break but Jackie Sullivan's (North Andover, Mass.) shot with seconds remaining hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Jordan Schnopp (Dalton, Mass.) had an opportunity to add an insurance goal but Owls' keeper Olivia Heffernan denied Schnopp on the doorstep.

Merrimack locked in on defense and thwarted all chances by the visitors. Kiley Horne (Scituate, Mass.) turned aside all five shots that she faced in the contest to earn her 11th victory of the season and her fifth shutout. Heffernan finished with six saves for Southern Connecticut.

The Warriors outshot the Owls 15-10 in the match including a 7-5 margin in shots on frame. The two sides nearly split the amount of corner kicks awarded as Southern Connecticut earned three and Merrimack received two.

With the win, Merrimack clinched second-place in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Warriors are guaranteed a home game as they will host the seventh-seeded team in the tournament. The postseason is scheduled to begin October 31.

Before today's match, the Merrimack women's soccer team took a moment to recognize its six seniors: Ashley Alnwick (Groton, Mass.), Lindsey deMont (Littleton, Mass.), Jessie DeGraan (Braintree, Mass.), Elizabeth Hopley (Cromwell, Conn.), Colleen Hall (Westminster, Mass.) and Kerri Domohowski (Saugus, Mass.). The team presented each senior with flowers and Warrior Field was decorated with balloons and posters.

The Warriors will close out the regular season with a road match at Stonehill October 27.
