Women's Lacrosse Defeats Southern Connecticut 20-6
NEW HAVEN, CT – The Merrimack women's lacrosse
team picked up its first win of the season, defeating Southern
Connecticut 20-6 Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors scored the game's first four goals in the
first 3:33, the first eight goals in 9:27, and led 13-4 at halftime
behind two goals and five points from Mia Basile
(Longmeadow, MA) and two goals and two assists from
Meredith Prior (Branford, CT).
Christina McCarron (Westwood, MA), Mary Pasquantonio
(Plainville, MA) and Maddie Basile (Longmeadow,
MA) netted two first-half goals each as the visitors were
well on their way to their first conference victory of the season.
"I'm very pleased with how the girls played today," said head
coach Corinne Baker. "We came out of the gate strong, and we tried
some new things and got everyone touches. Hopefully we can continue
this onto Wednesday."
Three newcomers, Nicole Moran (Pembroke, MA), Samantha
Lausier (Tyngsboro, MA) and Liz Greeley (Norwood,
MA) tallied their first career goals, with Greeley getting
two in the victory.
In all, 10 Warriors scored goals and 11 registered points,
including Liz Lyons (Westwood, MA), who had a
game-high seven ground balls.
Mia Basile finished with a game-high six points, giving her 17
in three games.
Jamie-Lee Whiteway (Billerica, MA) stopped four
shots for the victory, as Merrimack outshot the Owls 41-10.
Merrimack (2-1, 1-1 NE-10) hosts defending National Champion and
top-ranked Adelphi Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the home opener at
Warrior Field.
