Women's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight, 21-7 over AIC
NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack women's lacrosse team picked up its third straight win, downing American International College 21-7 Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.
Merrimack rattled off nine unanswered goals to close the first half with a 12-3 lead, with Mary Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) and Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) getting three each. Merrimack caused 13 first-half turnovers, five from Liz Lyons (Westwood, MA) as the Warriors limited AIC to just 11 successful clears in 18 attempts.
The Warriors cruised to victory in the second half, alternating goals with AIC for the first nine in the half before netting the final four goals in the final 12 minutes.
Strachan finished with four goals and a game-high seven points, while Pasquantonio ended with three goals, four points, three draw controls. Maria DeStefano (Eliot, ME) and Jen Pino (North Andover, MA) each added four goals in the win. Lyons finished with an excellent two-way game with eight ground balls and six draw controls, while Christina McCarron (Westwood, MA) had four goals, two helpers and three ground balls.
Inna Hedden (Woodbine, MD) stopped three shots in goal for her sixth win of the year.
Ashleigh Szalowski led AIC with four goals in the loss, while Gina Gallo stopped 11 shots.
Merrimack (6-2, 3-1 NE-10) kicks off two big games in four days beginning at #1 and defending National Champion Adelphi tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The Warriors then return home to battle #4 Le Moyne Saturday at noon.
