#11 Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up by Bentley 12-8
WALTHAM, MA – Megan Wiggins scored five times, as Bentley notched five of the last six goals to upset the 11th-ranked Merrimack women's lacrosse team 12-8 Tuesday night in conference action.
The Warriors trailed 7-4 with 25:28 left in regulation, but a goal from Mary Pasquantonio (Plainville, MA) and two from Maria DeStefano (Eliot, ME) evened the score with 18:24 to play.
But Margeaux Garcia broke the tie just 23 seconds later, and the Falcons scored four times in the final 9:57 to prevail with the victory, ending Merrimack's two-game winning streak.
Merrimack never led, falling behind 4-1 early and 6-3 at halftime.
Pasquantonio led the way with three goals, four points, eight shots, and a team-high four draw controls. Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) and DeStefano each scored twice, while Liz Lyons (Westwood, MA), who leads the league in caused turnovers, added eight more, forcing 40% of her team's turnovers.
Inna Hedden (Woodbine, MD) made eight saves in the loss, while Falcons' goaltender Ally Dorman made 11 saves in the game and stopped 3-of-4 Merrimack free-position shots in the second half.
Merrimack (8-5, 5-4 NE-10) opens a three-game home stand against Southern Connecticut at 12 p.m. on Saturday. As part of Spring Weekend, Merrimack will host an in-game tailgate party at Warrior Field.
