Baseball Clipped by Southern N.H. 5-0
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack baseball team suffered a 5-0 loss to Southern N.H. Thursday afternoon at Warrior Diamond. The Warriors fall to 11-19 on the year and 3-12 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Penmen improve to 19-17 overall with a 7-9 mark in the league.
Joe Mantoni (Hopedale, Mass.) led the way with a 2-for-4 effort from the dish. PJ Farnham (Andover, Mass.) and Beau Batchelor (Peabody, Mass.) had the only other hits in the game for Merrimack.
Tim Rines gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with a two-run double down the left field line in the top of the second inning.
Mantoni broke up Garrett Jewell's bid at a no-hitter with an infield single, advancing Tim Curran (South Weymouth, Mass.) to second after a one-out walk.
Following a two-out double by Matt Boulter, Robert Wronski homered down the right field line to increase Southern N.H.'s advantage to 4-0 in the fifth frame. With two outs in the sixth, Juan Amador scored the Penmen's fifth run of the contest on a wild pitch.
Travis Terrill (Hudson, N.H.) tossed six innings on the hill for the Warriors and fanned six batters. Brian Wolfendale (Methuen, Mass.) worked the final three innings for Merrimack, allowing no runs while picking up one strikeout.
The Warriors hit the road for a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games. Merrimack travels to take on American International for a twin bill April 22.
