Women's Soccer Travels to Adelphi University Saturday Night

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After cruising past Saint Michael's, 6-0 Tuesday night at Martone-Mejail Field, the Merrimack College women's soccer team heads south to Garden City, N.Y. to face the Panthers of Adelphi University for a Northeast-10 showdown Saturday night.

Last Time Out

Senior keeper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) posted her fourth shutout of the season, as the Merrimack College women's soccer team defeated Saint Michael's College, 6-0 on Tuesday night at Martone-Mejail Field.

Senior Jenna Zechner (Billerica, Mass.) made a long cross across the goal line and sophomore Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) buried the ball home to put Merrimack ahead, 1-0. Less than a minute later, Zechner found the back of the net off a rebounded header off the crossbar by Savi, who received a long feed from junior Sarah Coakley (Medway, Mass.) to put Merrimack ahead 2-0.

Zechner blasted the ball home after receiving a long pass from Coakley to extend the Warriors lead to 3-0. Jenna Savi added her seventh goal of the season after receiving a pass from Zechner and Alana Vecchiarello (Peabody, Mass.) tacked on one insurance goal from Zechner finalizing a 5-0 lead going into halftime.

Vecchiarello found the left side of the net to record her fifth goal of the season and secure a 6-0 lead over the Purple Knights. Senior Jackie Sullivan (North Andover, Mass.) received the assist on Alana's goal.

Last Season against the Panthers

  • Lost to the Golden Knights, 3-0
  • Junior forward Jenna Zechner (Billerica, Mass.) attempted a team-high four shots, while junior goalkeeper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) notched three saves in net.
  • Saint Rose players Amanda Vasquez, Brittany Barry, and Sydney Bond each tallied one of the goals for the Golden Knights.
  • Saint Rose outshot the Warriors by a 20-15 margin and also earned a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.

The Warriors:

  • Currently are ranked fifth in the Notheast-10 with a confe4rence record of 7-3-2, while the University of New Haven sits in fourth with a conference record of 7-1-2.
  • Merrimack keeper has posted a total of 64 saves and has a .800 save percentage.
  • The Warriors are fourth in the NE-10 with 29 goals scored.
  • Savi currently leads the team with sven goals, while Vecchiarello is second on the team with five goals scored.

The Opponent:

  • Coming off a 1-0 win against Le Moyne College Tuesday night.
  • The Panthers sit third in the Northeast-10 right, while American International and Saint Rose sit number two and one, respectively.
  • Keeper Sam Whitney has 0.58 goals against average and accumulated 58 saves on the season.
  • As a team, Adelphi ranks sixth in the NE-10 with 21 goals scored.
  • Sophomore forward Olivia Czavar leads the Panthers with six goals and 13 points.
