Women's Soccer Hosts New Haven in the NE-10 Championship Quarterfinals

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After qualifying for the Northeast-10 Championship for the 29th straight season, the Merrimack College women's soccer team are seeded fourth in the NE-10 Women's Soccer Championship and will host the fifth seed the University of New Haven Chargers Tuesday night at Martone-Mejail Field for the quarterfinals.

Senior co-captain Danielle Dion (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) gave Merrimack a one-goal edge in the 17th minute with her fifth tally of the year. Junior Sarah Coakley (Medway, Mass.) tossed the ball to senior Sami Brady (Rockland, Mass.) who found Dion wide open. After dribbling pass the Assumption defender, Dion sent a high shot into the upper right corner.
Sophomore Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) had two opportunities to score in the front of the cage by the visitors' goalkeeper maintained the one-goal deficit.
The Warriors clamped down defensively in the final minutes of the match to hold on for their 10th victory of the season.
This Season against the Chargers
- Dion dribbled passed numerous defenders and right pass the Chargers goalkeeper to find the right side of the net for the game-winning goal.
- Senior keeper Nicole Curtis (Billerica, Mass.) tallied six saves, allowing just two goals on the afternoon.
- New Haven held a slight 22-19 edge in shots, while the Warriors recorded four corner kicks on the afternoon.
- Junior Marissa Maiolo (Monroe, Conn.) and senior Sami Brady (Rockland, Mass.) scored one goal each for the Warriors.

Friday, November 8 - Semifinals (at high seeds)

Sunday, November 10 Championship (at highest seed)
Match 7: Match 5 Winner vs. Match 6 Winner – 1:00 p.m.
- If Merrimack wins tonight's game against New Haven, they will play the winner of of Match #1 (No 1 Saint Rose or No. 8 Franklin Pierce).
- For the rest of the tournament, the higher seed will host the semifinals and the championship.
The Warriors:
- This season, Merrimack's offense was led by sophomore Jenna Savi who tallied a team-high seven goals and 16 total points.
- Co-captain Danielle Dion was not far behing Savi, tallying five goals, five assits, and recording 15 total points.
- Curtis finshed the season with a .811 save percentage and registered six shutouts.
- As a team, Merrimack ranks fourth in goals scored with 33 and ranks second in the NE-10 with 36 assists.
The Chargers:
- Monica Yanez leads the club with 12 goals for the season, as well as ranks second in the conference in goals and third in total points with 27.
- Amber Simms tallied a team-high 28 points, 11 goals, and six assists.
- As a team, New Haven ranks third in goals with 34 and ranks fourth in the NE-10 with 22 assists.
- Goalkeeper Natasha Purchla owns a .83 goals-against average, an .853 save percentage, and has recorded three solo shutouts
