Women's Soccer Heads to Colchester for Matchup with St. Michael's (3 p.m.)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's soccer team looks to put a two-game losing skid behind them as they play St. Michael's College up in Colchester, Vt. this afternoon.

The Warriors hung around with No. 5 Saint Rose, but the Warriors eventually lost by a score of 4-1.
The Golden Knights got on the board first, scoring in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead, but Merrimack answered less than 90 seconds later.
Junior Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) sent a corner kick into the six-yard box. Golden Knights goalkeeper Ashley Homer jumped to catch the cross, but the ball slipped through her hands and onto the head of midfielder Marissa Maiolo (Monroe, Conn.). The senior captain struck the ball into the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1.
Junior goalkeeper Meghan Gulbrandsen (Haverhill, Mass.) made three first-half saves to keep the contest within striking distance. Unfortunately for the Navy and Gold, the Saint Rose attack found some rhythm, scoring three second-half goals to defeat Merrimack.
Last Season vs. St. Michael's:
The Navy and Gold scored a season-high six goals in a 6-0 victory over the Purple Knights.
Savi set a career high with five points (2g, 1a), which she equaled earlier this season against Queens College. Sophomore Alana Vecchiarello (Peabody, Mass.) notched two goals while senior Sarah Coakley (Medway, Mass.) tallied two assists.
The Warriors scored five of its six goals in the first 16:32 of the contest.
The Purple Knights:
- St. Michael's has a 4-9-1 record on the year (3-7-1 NE-10), and sit in 11th place in the Northeast-10 standings
- Michaela Horne leads the team in goals (5) and points (12)
- Aubrey Ouellet has seen the most time in net for the Purple Knights. She has a 1.33 goals against average and a .674 save percentage
