What They Said
Head coach Gabe Mejail: "There's no doubt in my mind that the team gave a full 90-minute effort today, we just were not able to score. It was a pleasure to honor the seniors before the game because of how much effort they've given to the program and the success they have had over the last four seasons."

How It Happened
In a pregame ceremony, seniors Katie Bresciani (Hopedale, Mass.), Sarah Coakley (Medway, Mass.), Desiree DeLeon (Salem, Mass.), Marissa Maiolo (Monroe, Conn.) and Gabby Vega (Danvers, Mass.) were honored as part of Senior Day. The players received flowers and were greeted by their families at midfield.

For the entire 90 minutes, it was an evenly played matched with both teams battling to create the most out of their opportunities.

In the first half, each team had an opportunity at a penalty kick. In the 20th minute, freshman Sarah Boucher (Northbridge, Mass.) was fouled in the box to give Merrimack the PK. Junior Jenna Savi (Dedham, Mass.) stepped to the dot and shot to the left side, but Panthers goalkeeper Sam Whitney was there to make the save.

Whitney made seven saves on the afternoon, including six in the first half.

With less than ten minutes remaining in the first 45 minutes, the Navy and Gold were called for a hand ball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick given to Adelphi. Senior Donna Liotine shot right as freshman Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) dove left, resulting in the only goal of the contest.

Inside The Numbers

  • Meehan made her first career start in net after playing in the second half of games for the majority of this season.  She totaled three saves
  • Boucher led Merrimack with six of the 14 Warriors shots. She has 17 shots over her last two games
  • Merrimack outshot Adelphi 14-12 and 7-4 in shots on goal
  • Boucher and fellow rookie Andrea Rego (Dartmouth, Mass.) each saw shots go high in the waning minutes that could have tied the game
