Women's Volleyball Takes Home Two Wins Against Molloy and Southern CT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team defeated Molloy College and Southern Connecticut State University in non-conference matches played at SCSU earlier today.

How It Happened
It was a successful day down in Connecticut for the Warriors, as Merrimack snapped a three-match losing streak with two victories.

Against the Lions, the Warriors won 3-1. The Navy and Gold won by set scores of 25-8, 25-22 and 25-22. Merrimack dropped the third set 25-20, but rebounded to win the fourth.

Senior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) finished with a team-high 14 kills. Fellow senior Corrine Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) contributed offensively with nine kills and only one error for a .444 hitting percentage.

Junior libero Madison Burke (San Jose, Calif.) led the way with 17 digs, and sophomore setter Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) notched 35 assists.

The Navy and Gold faced the Owls earlier this season, defeating them in North Andover. This time around was no different as Merrimack won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15.

Sheehan equaled her total in the first match with 14 kills. Sophomore Juliette McCall (Torrance, Calif.) added six kills with only one error for a .312 attack percentage.

Burke and Stuhr once again led the team in digs and assists, with 18 and 26, respectively.

Inside The Numbers

  • Sheehan now sits within five kills of 300 on the season. She averages 4.21 kills per set to lead the Northeast-10
  • With her 20th assist against SCSU, Stuhr reached 700 helpers for the year. She averages 10.07 assists per set, one of two players in the conference to average at least 10 assists per set.
  • Burke reached the 300-dig plateau against the Owls. She averages 4.77 digs per set on the season
