Merrimack would split a two-game series with Colgate University last weekend in North Andover, as the Raiders would take the Friday game, 4-3, while the Warriors would bounce back and win the Saturday game, 4-2. Freshman Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) posted her first multi-goal game, scoring twice in a 1:30 span, including a shorthanded goal, in the loss Friday. Sophomore captain Jackie Pieper (Edina, Minn.) would add the third with a power-play score to take a one-goal lead, but the Warriors would fall to two unanswered goals in the third.
Merrimack picked up its second win of the season and first non-conference win in the second game of the two-game series with a 4-2 victory. Junior captain Marie Delarbre (Fussen, Germany)highlighted the scoring with the first two goals of her career, while freshmen Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.) netted her third of the season and Meghan Martin (Newport, Vt.) scored the first of her career.
The Warriors:
- Freshman goaltender Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Saskatchewan) continues to be a rock in net for the Warriors. She made a season-high 47 stops in Saturday's win to improve her season total to 230, which is fourth in the nation and first among rookies.
- Pieper is tied for first on the team in goals with three along with Voight and Rae. All three of Pieper's goals have come on special teams, with two coming with the man-advantage and on shorthanded.
- The Warriors have found success on the power play this year, as their power play success rate of 25.0 (6-24) is tied for sixth in the nation.
The Huskies:
- Ninth-ranked Northeastern is off to an impressive 6-1-1, with their lone loss coming to Lindenwood University. Last weekend the Huskies posted a huge 7-1 win over #10/RV Boston University.
- The Huskies are led by senior Kendall Coyne, one of the best players in Divison I women's ice hockey today. The Olympian is currently second in the nation in points per game (2.50), goals per game (1.50) and goals (12), and has a line of 12-8-20 through eight games.
- Northeastern currently boasts the fourth-most productive offense in the nation, averaging 5.12 goals per game, and the second best power play in the country with a success rate of 34.5 (10-29).
