STORRS, Conn. – The Warriors would see all of their shots in a game turned away for the first time this season as the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team fell at Connecticut by a score of 1-0 in Hockey East action on Saturday afternoon .

How It Happened
The Warriors would start the game as the aggressor, outshooting the Huskies 8-2 through the first eight minutes of the opening period. They kept up that offensive pressure throughout the first as Merrimack would proceed to outshout Connecticut 11-6 in the opening period.

The final of those six shots in the first for the Huskies would find the back of the net as their leading scorer Brittany Berisoff would net her fifth of the season to give Connecticut the 1-0 lead headed into the first intermission.

The offensive production numbers from the first period would swap in the second as the Huskies would fire off 18 shots in the in the middle stanza. Freshman goaltender Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Saskatchewan) would turn away all 18 of the shots she faced in the second to hold the deficit at one.

The Warriors would respond in the third period with seven shots on net, vying to even up the score. Connecticut's goalie and reigning Women's Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week Elaine Chuli would deny all seven shots in the period and all 23 from the Warriors in the game.

Inside The Numbers

  • Shot totals finished at 34-23 in favor of Connecticut, with Ridgewell making 33 saves in the game for Merrimack. Sophomore captain Jackie Pieper (Edina, Minn.) lead the Warriors with five shots.
  • The loss on Saturday drops the Warriors' record in Hockey East play to 1-3, evening their record with Connecticut and Providence.
  • The Warriors took four penalties in the game, including one in the final three minutes during a comeback attempt.
  • This is just the first time the Warriors have been shut out this season, as they have scored at least once in all of their previous nine games.

The Warriors will play a home-and-home series with #8/8 Northeastern next weekend, with Friday's game being held in North Andover. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
