NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The strong start to her Merrimack career for redshirt freshman Hunter McCarthy (Avon, Conn.) continues as the first-year player was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, as announced by the league offices this morning.
McCarthy totaled nine goals in three games last week, notching a hat trick in every single contest. The attacker now has 13 goals in total, including her four-goal and seven-point performance in the season opener against the University of Findlay. The Avon, Conn. native has been crucial to Merrimack's 3-1 start, its best record through four games since 2011.
She currently trails teammate Aubrie Stouffer (Souderton, Pa.) for the team lead in points by just one, as McCarthy has compiled 16 points (13g, 3a) through four games. Additionally, McCarthy boasts four ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers this year.
McCarthy and the Warriors have another busy week upcoming, as the Navy and Gold will play three NE-10 tilts against Franklin Pierce, No. 9 Stonehill and Assumption. The contests against the Ravens and Skyhawks are at home, while the Warriors will travel to Worcester, Mass. to battle the Greyhounds on Saturday.
