NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's soccer team battled its way to a 0-0 tie with Pace University on Wednesday night in North Andover, keeping the teams' record without a loss through its first five games.

The Basics
Score: Merrimack 0,
Pace 0
Records: Merrimack (3-0-2, 1-0-1 NE-10)
| Pace (2-2-1, 0-1-1 NE-10)
Location:
Martone-Mejail Field | North Andover, Mass.

How It Happened
The first half of the game saw very little offensive action, with starting goalkeeper Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) only being forced to make one save. The Warriors were able to get the shots on net in the first, but those chances did not put forward much of a challenge to Pace goalkeeper Aisha Chauhan.

Head coach Gabe Mejail stayed true to what he has been doing all season, switching up goalkeepers at halftime and bringing in Meghan Gulbrandsen (Haverhill, Mass.) to play the second. Gulbrandsen's time in net in this game was a bit more exciting, as the Setters got off 11 shots in the second half and overtime, forcing her to make five saves.

Just over two minutes into the second half, a bouncing ball 15 yards in front of Merrimack's net landed right on the foot of a Pace player. The Setter fired a shot to the top left corner, and Gulbrandsen went full extension to make a highlight reel save and keep Pace off the board.

The Warriors created some chances in the second half as well, including a shot from Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) off a great airborne pass from Andrea Rego (Dartmouth, Mass.), but were unable to find the net.

Inside The Numbers

  • On top of her highlight-reel save, Gulbrandsen made five saves in the second half and both overtimes, matching the amount of saves made by Pace in the game
  • Pace outshot the Warriors 14-12. It is the first time this season that an opponent has outshot Merrimack in a game.
  • The Warriors are undefeated through their first five games. The last time that happened was in 2011.
