Women's Ice Hockey Opens 2016 at Vermont Monday
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Returning from a three-week holiday break, the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team will begin the 2016 slate of their schedule at Vermont for their first matchup with the Catamounts on Monday night. Puck drop on the Hockey East tilt is set for 7 p.m.
Last Time Out:
The Warriors closed out 2015 with a hard-fought loss at Providence, falling 4-3 to the Friars. Freshman Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.) was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week after posting her first-career and first two-goal game for the program, including her first shorthanded goal. Voight would score both goals in the second period as the Warriors trailed 3-2 entering the third.
The Friars would another in the final period to extend their lead to two. Halfway through the third freshman defenseman Baye Flanagan (Billerica, Mass.) netted a power play goal to cut the deficit to 4-3, but that would be all the Warriors could muster in the final period.
