The Basics
Score: Merrimack 5, Dominican 0
Records: Merrimack (2-0) | Dominican (0-2)
Location: Martone-Mejail Field |North Andover, Mass.
How It Happened
- 17' – Sophomore McKenna Moore (Seattle, Wash.) nearly opened the game's scoring early on in her first-career start, attacking hard from the right side and getting in close for a clean look, but was turned aside by a nice save from the keeper.
- 33' – After a three-point performance in Merrimack's season-opener, junior Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) would continue her hot start to 2016 by scoring the first goal of the game late in the second half. The goal would come due to a great individual effort from junior Jorgi Adee (Whitinsville, Mass.) to steal the ball from a Dominican player and find Carter in front of the net.
- 34' – Just over a minute after Merrimack netted the first goal of the game, sophomore Sarah Vita (Hamden, Conn.) would put home the first goal and point of her career to give the Warriors the insurance goal in the first half. Junior Cassie Giza (Orange, Conn.) would feed the ball to Vita to also pick up her first-career assist.
- 64' – After displaying a high-pressure offense for the end of the first and beginning of the second half, the Warriors would eventually breakthrough for their third goal of the game thanks to senior Bianca Giacalone (Gloucester, Mass.) putting a slick pass from junior Mia Reed (Essex Junction, Vt.) in the back of the net for her first of the season.
- 71' – The fourth goal of the contest would come off of a corner kick that was nicely placed by sophomore Amber Gustafson (Lancaster, Mass.). The kick would force Dominican's keeper to come out of her net to reach and make a play with her hands, but she would only deflect the ball right at freshman Cassidy Henderson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) who headed it in for the first goal of her young career
- 90' – With just 30 seconds remaining to the clock, the Warriors did not let up and played hard to the final whistle and capped off the game with their fifth goal, initiated by a nice pass from sophomore Amanda Murolo (Montville, N.J.) to find Giza for her first-career goal to highlight a career game.
Inside The Numbers
- The Warriors saw multiple firsts across their five goals on Sunday, highlighted by the first-career goal and assist for Giza, racking up a three-point game. Vita also picked up her first-career goal and point on her score, while Henderson's goal was also the first of her career in just her second game as a Warrior.
- Although she has yet to be really challenged for the duration of the game, junior goalkeeper Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) has yet to allow a goal in three halves of soccer to open 2016. Freshman goalkeeper Erin Fulton (Unionville, Mass.) saw her first-career minutes on Sunday, shutting out the Chargers while playing the entire second half.
- After finishing last season with 1 goal and no assists, Murolo has now registered an assist in the first two games of 2016.
