Women's Lacrosse Honors Seniors, Fights Third-Ranked Le Moyne Valiantly in 14-6 Setback Friday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team honored its five graduates from the Class of 2017 as part of Senior Day, and then outscored visiting third-ranked Le Moyne by a 4-1 margin midway through the second half to make it a four-goal game, but the Dolphins would eventually pull away late, as the Warriors battled valiantly in a 14-6 setback on Friday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field.

- While the visitors wound up outscoring Merrimack by a 9-2 margin in the first half, Merrimack limited the third-ranked team in the country to only two goals near the halfway point of the frame.
- The Warriors were opportunistic on two of their three first-half free position attempts, answering the bell at the 11:58 mark and 7:37 mark for their only two tallies of the opening stanza. Sophomore Lauren Trepaney (Amherst, N.H.), meanwhile, made two of her six first-half saves on free position attempts, as the Dolphins were kept to only a 2-of-7 mark on free position opportunities in the half.
- After both teams traded goals in the opening minutes of the second half, the Warriors would then run off three straight goals – with the latter two coming inside a 30-second span – to make it a four-goal game (10-6) with nearly 14 minutes to play.
- The Warriors had a chance to make it a three-goal contest with just over eight minutes remaining on another free position attempt, but that shot missed high, and from there on out the Dolphins were able to add four insurance tallies to their ledger to account for the final margin of victory.
Highlights and Notables
- Freshman Olivia Colletti (Massapequa, N.Y.) led all Warriors with two goals, accounting for the second straight game in which she led the team in goal-scoring.
- Sophomore Amber Feminella (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) was the team's overall lead scorer with three assists, tying her previous career-high in helpers. She had dished three assists on two other occasions over the past two years.
- Other Merrimack goal-scorers included junior Annette Ruggiero (Peabody, Mass.), sophomore Bridget Schofield (Littleton, Mass.), freshman Ally DaCosta (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Emma Bonassar (Wallingford, Conn.).
- Trepaney posted her fourth double-digit saves outing of the season and was seven stops away from her career-high of 18.
