Bentley Bests Women’s Volleyball Saturday, 3-0

WALTHAM, Mass..  – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program traveled to the Dana Center in Waltham on Saturday afternoon to take on Bentley University, with the Falcons pulling away for a three-set victory.

Set Breakdown
  • Set 1: Facing an 8-3 deficit, the Warriors won five straight points on kills from freshman Karina Anderson (Newbury Park, Calif.), senior Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio) and junior Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.), while junior Katelynn Marr (Franklin, Mass.) added two straight aces. With the score at 13-12 in favor of Bentley, the Falcons used an 8-1 run to put the first game away, eventually winning by a 25-17 final
  • Set 2: Separate runs of 5-2, 5-0 and 6-2 allowed the hosts to build a 21-12 lead in the second game. Points from Basauri and McCarroll brought the Warriors within eight, 24-16, but Bentley ended the frame on their third set point to move ahead by two
  • Set 3: The Falcons started the third game on a 9-2 run, making things difficult for the Warriors. Three straight points off a kill from Basauri and blocks from Anderson and sophomore Rosie Sperduto (Brentwood, Tenn.) brought Merrimack back in the game, 9-5. After a kill for senior captain Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) brought the Warriors within five (13-8), the hosts surged forward with five unanswered points to take a command of the set and win the match

  • Anderson led all players with six total blocks, which also was a single-match high for a member of the Warriors this season
  • Sperduto's 23 helpers also marked a match high, while Nye led the Warriors in kills for the second straight match
