Women’s Volleyball Honors Seniors Saturday vs. Pace

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program not only hosted Pace University on Saturday during Homecoming Weekend, but also celebrated Senior Day in front of numerous alumni, family and friends at Hammel Court. Despite the defeat to the Setters, the memorable moments came during Saturday's prematch ceremony that honored seniors Sofia Basauri, Amanda Cain and Katelynn Marr on their final home match

Set Breakdown
  • Facing a 16-10 hole, the Warriors used a 5-1 run to close their gap. Kills for Marr and junior Catherine Flaherty started the spurt. The Warriors closed within one, 18-17, after a kill from Basauri, but the Setters recovered to win seven of the final 10 points to emerge with a 25-20 win in the opener
  • A similar sequence ensued in the second set. Merrimack was down six, 16-10, once again before a 5-0 run cut its deficit to one. Four different Warriors recorded points, including a kill for freshman Kara Haase, an ace and a kill for Flaherty as well as one kill each for Basauri and Marr. Pace secured control from there, however, ended the frame on a 9-2 spurt to take a 2-0 lead into the third frame
  • Pace came out strong offensively in the third set, finding themselves up 7-3 early in the set. Despite Merrimack's efforts, the Setters extended their lead to a commanding 22-10 advantage. The Warriors fought back as freshman Megan Rumenapp led the charge with a four-point service run to bring Merrimack within eight points. Pace was then able to put an end to Merrimack's run and claim a 25-14 victory in the final set.  
Top Performers
  • Marr led the attack for Merrimack with nine kills on her senior day.
  • Rumenapp facilitated the offense for the Warriors, posting a team-high 27 assists on the day.
  • Cain posted a team-high nine digs to lead the defensive effort for Merrimack.
Notes and Notables
  • Basauri produced some efficient offense for the Warriors on senior day, hitting .231 on 13 attempts. Marr also posted a solid .192 hitting percentage on 26 attempts.
  • Pace's offense was very productive in all sets, totaling a .346 clip for the match.
  • Merrimack also had an effective attack in the contest, hitting .216 for the match. The Warriors hit .393 in the first set, which was their most efficient percentage on the day.
Up Next
The Warriors will travel to Manchester, N.H. where they will take on Southern New Hampshire at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
