CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.– Despite a trio of power play goals, the Merrimack women's ice hockey team's late push against the No. 8 Boston College Eagles came up short on the road Friday afternoon.

How It Happened

• Merrimack took the lead midway through the first, as Gabby Jones came down from the point, firing a shot that was deflected on goal by Courtney Maud in the crease. The puck rolled up across the goaltender's pads to a waiting Dominika Laskova in the slot, who cashed in on an empty net for her first of the season.
• Boston College found the equalizer at 12:08 of the first after a long defensive shift for Merrimack. The Eagles won the faceoff following an icing back to the boards, where Hannah Bilka sent it to Deirdre Mullowney, who fired in a puck that deflected in through traffic.
• On the power play, Bilka again managed the play for BC, taking a missed pass off the boards and skated with it up to the top of the slot. She fired and had her rebound backhanded in by Willow Corson at 5:00 of the second.
• The Eagles notched another late in the middle frame when Alexie Guay finished in the slot alone, handling a crisp pass from behind the net to give the home squad a 3-1 lead.
• In the third, BC added two more tallies. Gaby Roy capitalized on chaos down low in the crease, finding the loose puck in the paint. The Eagles added their final of the afternoon on a deflection by Savannah Norcross in the slot on a shot from the point.
• Merrimack added its second of the afternoon late in the third period on the power play. Katie Kaufman handled a pass from the point in the bumper, passing it to below the goal line for the waiting stick of Megan Fergusson. Fergusson lured the defense over, leaving space for Kiki Roust to come down from the point to cash in at the top of the paint.
• On a five minute power play in the closing minutes of the game, Kaufman handled a laser pass from Fergusson again behind the goal line. The sophomore fired a rifle of a shot from the dot to go bar down for her second of the year.

Notes & Numbers

• Sophomore netminder Emma Gorski stood firm for 29 saves on the afternoon in her fifth straight start.
• Megan Fergusson and Katie Kaufman both had two point afternoons, with Fergusson notching two helpers while Kaufman tallied a goal and an assist.
• Seven Warriors got on the scoresheet on the afternoon, including the first points of the year from Kiki Roust, Dominika Laskova and Julia MacLean.
• Laskova's goal was the first the Warriors have earned on the power play this season, and the first goal the Eagles have given up shorthanded this year.
