Women's Soccer Bested by Bryant in 2OT Heartbreaker

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. —  The Merrimack women's soccer team were edged out late in an evenly-contested road Northeast Conference contest, falling 1-0 on a double overtime golden goal by Bryant on Thursday.

The Summary
  • In a scoreless first half, Merrimack opened with the game's first shot on goal in the 4' on a low strike by Abigail Cieri. Bryant had three shots on target midway through the half, with Michele Silva turning saves on the 12' and 15' before the defense stepped up with a team save in the 17' to keep the Bulldogs off the board.
  • Merrimack's offense generated three more chances on goal in the second half of the scoreless battle, with Hallie Shiers forcing the first save against the Warriors in the 85'. In the final minutes of the second, Molly Murnane posted the best opportunity for Merrimack on the day on a low shot that forced a diving save by the goalkeeper. Freshman Ella Cormier gave Merrimack one last opportunity on goal in regulation with a shot to the left side for a 90' save by Bryant.
  • In the first overtime, Cormier had a shot go over in the 93' before punctuating the half with a shot that forced a save in the final minute of the frame.
  • Bryant took the game with four minutes remaining in the second overtime on a deflected shot down low.
Stats & Figures
  • Michele Silva opened the match in goal, handling two shots on goal in the first half. Freshman Claire DeFlora came in for her the second half and both overtimes, making six acrobatic saves to keep the Warriors in.
  • Cormier led the Warriors' offensive opportunities with two shots on goal, with both coming in the second half.
