SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Merrimack College track & field teams impressed in the first meet of the season against Northeast Conference foes Bryant and Long Island University on Saturday. The men's track team won its first Division I meet, while the women had a stellar second place finish.

Day 1 Highlights
- Allee Purcell won the 400 meter, finishing with a time of 1:02.28, with freshman Kaleigh Lane finishing behind her at 1:02.85 for second.
- In the hurdles, first year Carla Bouchrouche won the 400h with a 1:09.82 time, with Danny Lovell winning the 400h for the men at 56.94. Aaron Gable won the 110h, finishing at 15:83.
- Collin McCabe's 2:01.42 finish propelled him to first in the 800m. For the women, Emma Bouvier won both the 800m at 2:33.35.
- Julia Dempsey took second in the 1500m run at 5:00.48, as Kathryn Sullivan took second in the 100m hurdles, finishing at 16.17.
- Freshman Ben Chase set a new program record for the 3000m, finishing in 9:13.54.
- Despite the wind, throwers had a strong day in their events. Nathan Quaye led his discus throw with a winning 45.06m throw, as senior Travis Hunt won the men's hammer at 45.49.
- Hannah Flores' 36.05m discus throw led her to the win, with sophomore Taylor Jax finishing second with a 35.66m throw.
- Freshman Alana Johnson won her first collegiate event with a 40.85m throw, over five meters farther than the second-place finisher. Her throw is a new program record, and qualifies her for the New England Championships in the event. She attempted three throws over 40m on the day.
- Joron Harrell finished his triple jump with a 13.40m mark for second, with Omar Jasseh finishing second in the long jump at 6.52m.
- Relays also made their mark on the day, with the women's 4x400 relay race, passing LIU to finish with the win at 4:15.37. Both men's 4x100m and 4x400m relays won, with final times of 44.49 and 3:27.49 respectively.
