Women's Soccer Comeback Cut Short in Loss to Hartford

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College women's soccer lost their matchup with the University of Hartford on Thursday night. Ella Cormier had the lone goal for the Warriors in the 80th minute of play. Jillian Golden got the assist after launching a ball of the crossbar in the previous sequence.

  • About eight and a half minutes into the first half Hartford scored its first goal of the night to take an early lead. In the 20th minute, Cormier had the first shot on goal of the night for Merrimack, which was saved by the Hawk goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Holly Moore ripped a shot that was saved once again by Hartford. Starting goalkeeper Claire DeFlora made a save in the 23rd minute to keep the lead at one.
  • Molly Murnane earned a shot on goal 32 seconds into the second half, which was saved by the Hawk goalkeeper. In the 50th minute Hartford scored again to go up a pair. Caleigh Christensen launched a shot on goal in the 53rd minute that was saved by the keeper. Cormier finally broke through for Merrimack in the 80th minute of play to pull within a point. The goal was her second of the season. The Warriors had three shots in the final three minutes, but could not convert on any opportunity, losing the game by one.
