NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team was defeated during Sunday's matchup against Fairleigh Dickinson University, 62-52.
Amaya Staton led the Warriors with 16 points, she also was tied for the team-high in rebounds with six.
Kaylee Thomas was the only other Warrior in double figures with 12 points, she also added five rebounds.

- A jumper by Jayme DeCesare with five and a half minutes to play in the first quarter tied the game at four. The Knights then added seven points to go up seven with two minutes left in the quarter. Ava Owens stopped the run with a layup. Staton cut the lead to four with a post move in the paint. Fairleigh Dickinson scored the final four points of the first quarter to go up eight. Merrimack opened the second quarter, scoring six unanswered points to cut the lead down to just two. The teams traded buckets for the better part of three minutes of game time, keeping the deficit at two. The Knights added 10 points to go up by 12 with a minute to play in the half. Staton ended the run once again with a layup. The Warriors headed into halftime down 11.
- Merrimack started the second half six of the first eight points to slice the lead to seven. Fairleigh Dickinson then added seven points to the lead, going up 14. Makenzie Bray hit a three to stop the run. The Knights found themselves up 17 with a minute to play in the third. Staton and Marissa Hamilton combined for four points at the end of the quarter to make the deficit 13 heading into the fourth. Staton and Thomas scored a share of four points to open the fourth quarter, getting the lead down to 10. With five minutes to play Bray hit her second three of the afternoon to cut it to single digits. Staton laid one in at the hoop to make it a two possession game with four and a half minutes to play. The lead swelled to 10 with 42 seconds left. Thomas hit a jumper, but the comeback was cut short.
Notes and Numbers
- DeCesare earned her 275th assist in a Warrior uniform, she became the 10th player in program history to achieve the milestone.
- The Warriors forced 15 turnovers and scored 15 points off them.
- Staton and DeCesare both head two steals in the loss.
