NORTH ANDOVER, MASS-- The Merrimack College Women's Lacrosse team lost to Stonehill College in an NEC matchup Wednesday afternoon.

 

The Basics

Score: Stonehill 13, Merrimack 4

Records: Merrimack (2-10, 1-2 NEC) Stonehill (2-6, 2-1 NEC)

 

How It Happened:

The Warriors and the Skyhawks came out firing in this big conference matchup, with both teams scoring two goals in the first quarter. Merrimack goals came from Sophie Scearbo and Olivia Valdes, both of which were unassisted. Heading into the second quarter, Merrimack was still battling with another goal for Sophie Scearbo to complete her second of the day. This was not enough though as Stonehill was able to outscore Merrimack 3-1 in the second quarter and now the Warriors found themselves down 5-3. As the momentum switched the Warriors had to come alive in the third quarter, but they fell short allowing Stonehill to shut them out 6-0 in this time period. The Skyhawks have now built a massive lead of 11-3 and this one was now drawing to a close. The fourth quarter contained a late time goal for Merrimack's Sophie Scearbo to complete the hat trick, but it was no match for the dominant Stonehill who walked away with a 13-4 victory.

 

Notes and Numbers

Sophie Scearbo led the team in goals with a total of three.

Julia Harvey had three ground balls.

Kelly Corrigan caused a total of three turnovers.
