Men's Volleyball Drops First Round Matchup Against LIU

Loretto, P.A.—The Merrimack Warriors men's volleyball team was eliminated from the Northeast Conference volleyball tournament last night as they were defeated by the Long Island University Sharks by a set score of 3-1 on Wednesday night.
 
In set 1, the Warriors would hold the first multi point advantage but the Sharks equaled the set at 12 after a four point run before the Warriors took the lead right back. After a late LIU run,  the Warriors battled back, tying the score at 24, but the Warriors were unable to complete the late comeback as the Sharks took the last two points to win the set.
 
In set two, both teams would trade points before a four point run put the Warriors up 10-8, a lead they didn't relinquish for the reminder of the set as the Warriors scored eight of the sets final 11 points to knot the game up at one win a piece.
 
In the third set, Merrimack would tie the set after five after trailing early, but the Sharks scored five of the games next six points to take the lead. The Warriors scattered points for the rest of the set but the Sharks would take the set win for the 2-1 advantage.
 
In set four, the Warriors fought back from an early deficit scoring six of eight points to hold a 11-10 lead. The Warriors held the lead until the game was tied at 18, but the Sharks would score seven of the games last eight points to take the set and the match.
 
Notes and Numbers:
Miles Dewhirst led the team in kills with 14.
Logan Whittaker scored two aces.
Xander Thesz and Carson Bashford each recorded five blocks in the game.
Carson Bashford led the assist totals with 38.
Miles Dewhirst and Kyle Standage had 9 digs each.
