LOWELL, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team was defeated on the road by the Riverhawks of UMass Lowell on Wednesday.

Merrimack would start their first road contest off slow on both offense and defense. The Riverhawks jumped out to a quick 3-0 start until a
Natalie Calkins goal would put the Warriors on the board. From there it would be all UMass Lowell for the rest of the quarter. Six unanswered goals would put Merrimack down 9-1 heading into the 2
nd. A couple of freshmen would step up in the second quarter as both
Kaitlin Roche and
Lindsay Atkinson would net their first collegiate goals back-to-back. The 2
nd quarter was much more competitive, but the Warriors would still be down 13-4 heading into the half.
The second half saw two low-scoring quarters. Lowell would quickly jump on the scoreboard to start the 3
rd, with Merrimack responding with a couple of goals themselves. The rest of the quarter would be back and forth, ending by a score of 16-7 in favor of the Riverhawks. The 4
th quarter was a defensive battle as only 2 shots were attempted through the first 11 minutes. Merrimack would put up two late goals to match Lowell in the quarter. The Warriors seemed to have played inspired for the last three quarters of the game, but the first quarter proved to be the deciding factor as UMass Lowell would end up winning this one 18-9.
