How It Happened
Merrimack was looking to put last weekend behind them but they would be running into the top team in the NEC in undefeated Saint Francis. The young core of Merrimack played great in the first set as they took the Red Flash to the brink losing 25-22. In the second set Merrimack was looking to avoid going down 2-0. The Warriors held a lead through the first part of the set and trailed by just one at 20-19. However, Saint Francis would go on a 5-1 run to end the second set 25-20. In the third set SFU would go up early but credit to the Warriors for fighting back behind a 5-1 run to tie it at 10. After that the two teams would trade points, runs, and leads up until the very end when the Red Flash shut it down winning 25-22 and taking home the match win.
In the second match of the weekend the Warriors would take the first place Red Flash to the edge in the first set. Twenty five points would not be enough to settle this one as the two squads went to war up until 31 points. Saint Francis would come out on top but it was
Logan Whitaker willing the Warriors to make it a memorable first set. The second set was a struggle for the Warriors who got pounced on early. They would be unable to recover and lost the second by a score of 25-17. In the third Merrimack held a lead early and had it tied up at 11 before a monster run from Saint Francis. An 8-1 run from SFU gave them a 19-12 lead. With the seven point advantage the Red Flash were able to maintain the lead and go for the sweep over the Warriors winning the third 25-16.
