Rapid Recap
Coming off a statement win against Howard University on Senior Day, the Warriors looked to continue their momentum at home against the first-place Sacred Heart Pioneers. Sacred Heart took the reigns early, scoring the first 4 goals of the match within the first five minutes. Standout freshman
Lindsay Atkinson would get the Warriors on the board with 2 free position goals, an area she has excelled at all season long. The Pioneers would tack on a goal with a minute and 31 seconds to go up 5-2 heading into the 2
nd quarter. Both teams could not get much going this quarter offensively as we would see only a few goals.
Natalie Calkins got her first goal of the match with 10:27 left in the quarter. From there, Sacred Heart would add on 2 more goals to go up 7-3 at the half.
Merrimack took advantage of an opportunity during a woman-down situation and scored to cut the deficit to three. A scoring drought would start for the Warriors, as Sacred Heart went on a run in the last 10 minutes of the 3
rd. Merrimack just could not get anything going and found themselves down 12-4 at the start of the 4
th quarter. Just like the 2
nd, it was much more of a defensive battle and hard for either team to get good scoring opportunities. A late rally from the Warriors in the last few minutes of the game would make the final score 13-7 in favor of Sacred Heart.
