How It Happened
Merrimack would start off their final regular season weekend with a match versus Daemen, a team they had lost to in three sets earlier on this year at home. The first was closely contested and very evenly matched until the Wildcats took over to win it 25-21. In the second, Daemen seized control of it early on and never looked back as they would go up two sets to zero on the Warriors after the 25-16 win. In the third set it would be the
Logan Whitaker and
Yulius Melvin Brown Rudolf show as the two would combine to throttle the Merrimack attack over the Wildcats. It came down to the wire but capped off by a Whitaker kill, the Warriors we're able to escape and claim the third set victory. Hoping to carry that momentum into the fourth set was MC but the home team proved to be too much. Daemen would go on to claim the fourth set and win the match outright in four sets.
In the second match of the weekend the Warriors wanted to grab the season sweep over the Saints in Buffalo and head home with a win under their belt. In the first set of the match D'Youville came out to a roaring start scoring 7 of the first 8 points and putting Merrimack in a tough spot. However, an 8-1 run by MC in the middle of the set would bring them in front and they would eventually close it out by a score of 25-22. In the second set the Saints held the lead for almost the entirety of the set except for a couple Warriors spurts and the home team would even up the match at one set. The pivotal third set was similar to the second as D'Youville held a slim advantage for most of the frame. The Warriors never went away hanging close and eventually going on a 6-1 run to end the set winning 25-22. Different from the rest of the match was the fourth and final set as the Warriors went up early and never seemed to look back. This set would mark the largest advantage for the Warriors all weekend long as they coasted to a 25-18 victory to end the match finished off by none other than
Logan Whitaker.
