Women's Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision vs. Saint Rose

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.  – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program welcomed the College of Saint Rose to Hammel Court on Friday evening for its second of three straight Northeast-10 Conference matches at home. The visitors pulled away to win the opener, 25-16, and went on to win the match in three sets.

Set Breakdown
  • Set 1: Featuring two kills from junior Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.) and a service ace from senior Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio), the Warriors used a 5-0 spurt to create an early 6-3 lead. With the Warriors up one, the Golden Knights went on a 7-0 stretch that gave them the lead for good. Another kill from Basauri brought the Warriors' deficit to six, 22-16, but the Golden Knights collected three unanswered points to win the game
  • Set 2: The Warriors got off to another good start in the second, winning four of the first six points. Sitting at a seven-all deadlock, the Golden Knights embarked on an 8-1 run to make it a 15-8 set. Winning four of six points on kills for senior Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio), junior Katelynn Marr (Franklin, Mass.) and Basauri brought the hosts within five, 23-18, but Saint Rose recovered the win the frame by six, 26-19
  • Set 3: The Warriors bounced back from a 10-5 hole to rip off five unanswered points to tie the final set, 10-10, behind three kills for McCarroll. A 10-3 Saint Rose spurt enabled the visitors to take a seven-point lead, but Merrimack answered with a 7-2 run of its own to cut the deficit to two, 22-20. The Golden Knights called timeout, halting the Warriors' momentum and won three of four points to win the match
Team Leaders (MC // STR) Notes and Notables
  • Returning to the libero position that she's occupied over the majority of the last two years, senior captain Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) notched a match-high 16 digs. It was her second-highest total over her last 10 matches and her 12th match this season in double figures
  • Basauri nearly posted a double-double, finishing with eight kills and eight digs. Over her last five matches, Basauri is averaging 2.29 kills per set
