SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 14th-ranked Merrimack College women's lacrosse team got within three goals early in the second half, but unbeaten Le Moyne – ranked third nationally coming into the contest – would only allow one more the rest of the way, as the Warriors saw their six-game winning streak – the longest such unbeaten run for the program in eight years – end against the Dolphins in a Saturday morning Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Ted Grant Field.

The Basics
Score: Le Moyne 14, Merrimack 4
Records: #14 Merrimack (9-4, 6-3 NE10) | #3 Le Moyne (13-0, 9-0 NE10)
Location: Ted Grant Field | Syracuse, N.Y.
Duration: 1:59

Rapid Recap
  • After Le Moyne scored just over a minute into the game, junior Amber Feminella netted the first of her three tallies about a minute later, drawing the Warriors level at 1-1.
  • The Dolphins would grab a 3-1 lead with two goals about three minutes apart, and then their defense – one of the best in the nation – went to work, holding the Warriors off the scoresheet for over a 20-minute span.
  • Sophomore Olivia Colletti would break that long draught with her 20th tally of the season with only 4:24 left in the half to get Merrimack within three (5-2), but the Dolphins capitalized on a player-up opportunity after Merrimack was levied a yellow card and scored to go into halftime with a 6-2 lead.
  • After Feminella netted her second off a free position opportunity early in the second to get the Warriors within three, Le Moyne would score roughly 90 seconds later and then used its defensive prowess to again limit Merrimack's scoring chances.
  • It wasn't until the 8:34 mark that Merrimack – and Feminella – would find the back of the twine again, but by then the Dolphins already had an eight-goal lead. That was also the last time the Warriors would score, as Le Moyne added three insurance goals to account for the final margin of victory.
Top Performances
  • While Le Moyne might've had an answer defensively for the rest of the team, Feminella once again had her way with a team-high four points, including another hat trick.
  • Sophomore Courtney Capobianco added two more caused turnovers to her resume and was one of five Warriors to cause at least one Le Moyne miscue.
  • Senior Annette Ruggiero led the way with three draw controls.
  • Junior Lauren Trepaney started for the fifth straight game and finished with 17 saves, her fifth double-digit save performance of the year and one shy of her career-high.
Notes & Numbers
  • The loss snapped Merrimack's six-game winning streak, its longest in eight years; the 2010 Warriors had won 10 straight games, the longest such run in program history.
  • Despite the loss, Merrimack still is in line for its best season since 2011 with its 9-4 record; the 2011 Warriors finished 12-7 overall.
  • Merrimack saw its double-digit goal total streak end at 11 games, the longest such run since the 2010 Warriors scored double-digit goals in their first 14 games of the year.
  • Le Moyne was able to hold Merrimack to season-lows in shot attempts (19) and shots on goal (10), as well as ground balls (10), a testament to the Dolphins' defense considering the Warriors were among the nation's most potent offenses coming into the game.
  • Feminella now has 53 goals on the year, temporarily tied for first in the NE10, and also moved into fourth in overall scoring with 66 points.
  • Shots: 19-43 (10-31 SOG)
  • FPG: (MC-LEM): 3-4 // 0-5
  • Draw Controls: 7-13 // Ground Balls: 10-23
  • Turnovers: 14-9 (6-8 CT) // Clears: 10-15 // 14-15
