Men's Volleyball Captures Thrilling Win Against Queens University of Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Merrimack College men's volleyball team won its second match on Sunday afternoon after they beat Queens University of Charlotte, 3-2. Miles Dewhirst had the most kills in the game with 18 kills. Zyshonne Lang had 10 kills, with Xander Thesz had 9 kills.

  • Two kills by Lang got the scoring going for the Warriors during the first set to give them a 4 point lead.  The Royals broke the lead up, but the Warriors struck back with a 5 point run lead by a kill from Dewhirst and a service ace from Matthew Motes. Both teams traded the lead with each other during the middle of the set. Thesz, Motes, and Lang each had a kill to give the Warriors the lead. Logan Whitaker had a kill at the end of the first set to lead the Warriors to win the first set. 25-22
  • Going into the second set, The Royals wasted no time to take over by going on a 2 five point runs. Dewhirst and Lang broke up those leads by getting a kill. Queens would go on to win the second set. 25-16
  • A kill by Motes starting the third set, got the Warriors going with scoring. Merrimack had the lead 11-7 which was broken up by the Royals. Motes had two more kills to continue to take the lead with a kill by Thesz and Dewhirst to have a 17-16 lead. The Royals went on a five point run to take the lead and eventually won the third set. 25-20
  • Both teams traded one to two point leads in the fourth set. Logan Whitaker had a kill early in the set to give the Warriors the lead. The Royals went on a 8 point lead to give them a lead of 15-10. Towards the end of the set, Merrimack bounced back with a kill from Thesz to win the set and tie up the game. 31-29
  • The Warriors wasted no time going into the fifth and final set, with a kill by Dewhirst to get the scoring going. Dewhirst had four more kills along with two kills from Thesz and a kill by Whitaker to take the set and win. 15-13
