Rapid Recap
Merrimack looked to sneak away with back to back wins over Ivy League opponents when the Quakers of Penn came into town. The first quarter was all offense for the Warriors; they put together a 21 point frame led by some fantastic three point shooting from Diamond Christian and Lydia Melaschenko. The second quarter also saw its fair share of offense as Merrimack looked to add to their 21-14 end of first quarter lead. The Quakers offense came alive and this turned into a rock fight back and forth throughout the quarter. Penn was able to tie it up on multiple occasions and even took the lead late but it was MC coming up with a two point lead heading into the half.
The start of half number two was nothing like what we had seen from a relatively efficient Merrimack offense. The Warriors were unable to score their first field goal until the 2:58 mark of the third quarter. Penn soared to a double digit lead however Merrimack fought right back and cut it down to a two point game with a minute left. The Quakers would end the 3rd up six. Penn built their lead back up in the fourth but behind the great shooting of Diamond Christian and marvelous post play of Amaya Staton, the Warriors made it a three point game with just under four minutes remaining. Penn was able to extend their lead back in which Merrimack never was able to get back into it and lost the contest 71-62.
