Men's Volleyball Falls to Fairleigh Dickinson

Hackensack, N.J. - The Merrimack Men's Volleyball team was defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson University on Friday night by a score of 3-2.

Rapid Recap
  • In the first set, the Warriors struck first with two points. The Knights responded with a three-point run which was broken up by Merrimack. Both teams traded a point until the Knights went on a five-point run which was broken up by the Warriors. FDU again went on a five-point run, bringing the lead 23-14. The Warriors looked to come back but the Knights shut them out, ending the set 25-16 and taking the lead in the series 1-0. 
  • In the second set, Merrimack struck first in the early stages with both teams again trading one-point leads. In the middle of the second set, the Warriors went on a four-point run and held the lead to 22-19. The Knights went on a two-point run to tie the set but the Warriors went on a three-point run to take the second set 25-21 and tied up the series 1-1.
  • The third set, The Knights struck first this time by going on a three-point run, The Warriors responded with a two-point run. Each team traded multiple point runs towards the middle of the set, as Merrimack looked to tie up the game later in the set, FDU kept them at bay at 22-19. The Knights would take the third set 25-20, and took the lead in the series 2-1. 
  • Heading into the fourth set, The Warriors came right out of the gates with 2 two-point runs to spark the team. Merrimack held the lead 14-12 until the Knights tied up the game 14-14. Both teams traded two-point runs with a two-point difference until the Warriors closed out the fourth set 25-23, tying up the series again 2-2.
  • In the fifth and final set, both teams fought hard and looked to get the advantage on one another with two-point runs. Merrimack held on by tieing up the game three times, however FDU went on a four-point run and closed out the fifth and final set 15-11 and won the series 3-2.
 
Notes and Numbers:

•   Matthew Motes had 18 kills, Zyshonne Lang had 17, Miles Dewhirst had 9
•   Carson Bashford had a career high in the game with 51 assists.
•    Dewhirst led the team in digs with ten.
 
Up Next:
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday night at 7:00 PM as they head down to Pennsylvania to take on Saint Francis University.
