Men's Volleyball Notches Win Over Fairleigh Dickinson

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack Men's Volleyball team defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights by a score of 3-1 in their eighth NEC matchup on Friday night.

Rapid Recap

In the first set, The Knights struck first with a three-point run, but the run got broken up by a kill from Xander Thesz. The Knights would score another point but the Warriors had a two-point run to only be down by one point. Matthew Motes had two kills to bring the Warriors back in the game along with a kill from Thesz and two kills from Logan Whitaker. Both teams traded points back and forth until the Warriors took over with a four-point run to take the lead. Fairleigh Dickinson would tie it back up and eventually win the first set 26-24 and lead the match with one set 1-0.

In the second set, The Knights again struck first with a three-point run. The Warriors responded back with two three-point runs led by kills from Motes and Whitaker. The Knights would score four points right after. Later on in the second set, it was all Merrimack as they scored three two-point runs to take the second set 25-20 and tie up the match 1-1.
 
Heading into the third set, the Warriors went on a scoring run with six points to take the lead 6-0. The Knights looked to come back with a four-point run but the Warriors kept them at bay by three points with a kill from Motes. Dewhirst had another kill to keep the Warrior lead 12-9. Both teams again traded a point with each other. A kill from Zyshonne Lang sparked a late two-point run to win the third set for the Warriors 25-18 and lead the match 2-1.
 
In the fourth and final set, Warriors struck first this time again with a two-point run lead by a kill from Dewhirst. The Knights responded with a three-point run of their own. Both teams again traded a point with each other until the Knights had a two-point run. Merrimack had a three-point run as well, led by a kill from Thesz. Both teams traded one and two-point runs until the Warriors looked to close out the final set with kills from Lang and Motes 25-22 and finished the match 3-1.

Notes and Numbers
●  Matthew Motes had 11 kills in the win. Xanders Thesz had 9 and Miles Dewhirst had 6.
● Carson Bashford had 33 assists during the match .
● Kyle Standage had 15 digs in the game.

The Warriors will be back in Hammel Court for their final home game this season as they take on Saint Francis University on Saturday April 1. Game time is set for 6pm
