Long Island, N.Y. -- The Merrimack Men's Volleyball team was defeated by Long Island University on Friday, 3-0.
The Sharks jumped out to a quick seven-point lead.
Xander Thesz stopped a four-point run with a kill.
Carson Bashford had a service ace to pull the Warriors within five. Long Island then jumped on a three-point run, going up by eight. Merrimack responded by going on a four-point run of their own to cut the lead to four. The Sharks would go on multiple runs to end the set, winning it by eight.
A kill from
Matthew Motes brought Merrimack within two points early on in the second set. Later on in the set,
Zyshonne Lang had a kill to tie it at Long Island then added four points to go up by four. Merrimack added three points to cut the lead down to one. An ace from Thesz gave the Warriors their first lead of the set. Both teams then battled back and fourth. After finding themselves in a set point situation, Long Island scored three points in a row to win set number two.
Merrimack would find themselves up one at the half way point of the third set after a kill from
Logan Whitaker. The Sharks would then go on two, three-point runs to go up by four. In back-to-back sequences Thesz had a kill and an ace to put the Warriors down by two. Long Island would score the final five points to win the set and match.
Notes and Numbers:
Motes led the team with 9 kills.
Bashford had 23 assists.
Kyle Standage finished with 10 digs.

The Warriors will play its regular season finale at St Francis Brooklyn on Saturday.
