AMHERST, N.Y. -- The Merrimack Men's Volleyball team was defeated by Daemen University on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0.
Heading into the first set, the Warriors scored the first point to get the game going. The Wildcats responded with a three-point run. Merrimack followed up with a three-point run of their own before the Wildcats scored two points. Two points from the Warriors with a kill from
Zyshonne Lang took the lead 6-5. Both teams battled back and forth with a one or two-point run with kills from
Xander Thesz and
Matthew Motes for the Warriors. The Wildcats had two three-point runs with the Warriors getting one point in between them with a kill from
Miles Dewhirst. Later in the first set, the Warriors looked to get back into the game but Daemen shut them down to win the first set 25-20 and lead the match 1 set to 0.
Going into the second set, the Warriors struck again with the first point of the set. The Wildcats followed up with a two-point run. A kill from Lang and
Logan Whitaker helped the Warriors take the lead 3-2. The Wildcats went on a four-point run taking the lead 9-5. Merrimack responded with two-points including a kill from Thesz. Daemen kept scoring to keep the lead with four two-point runs to win the second set 25-18 and lead the match 2 set to 0.
In the third and final set, the Wildcats struck first with a three-point run. Two kills from Lang, a kill from Motes and
Anthony Clapp tied up the set 6-6. The Wildcats scored a point but right after the Warriors took back the lead with two kills from Dewhirst. The Warriors again took back the lead at 10-8 with a kill from Motes. The Wildcats went on seven-point run to secure the lead and finished off with a three-point run at the end of the third set 25-16 to win the match 3-0.
Notes and Numbers:
Zyshonne Lang led the team with 9 kills.
Anthony Clapp had 17 assists.
Logan Whitaker and Kyle Standage both had 5 digs.
Up Next:
The Warriors will head back to New York to take on Long Island University on Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
