BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Merrimack Men's Volleyball team was defeated by D'Youville College on Friday night by score of 3-1.
In the first set the Warriors jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead.
Xander Thesz then had a kill to make it an 11-6 advantage for the Warriors. The teams battled back and forth. Thesz had another kill to give Merrimack a five-point advantage. The Warriors scored three-points in a row to go up 24-17. After giving up a point,
Miles Dewhirst had a kill to give Merrimack a first win victory.
D'Youville jumped out to an early lead in the second set. Two kills from Thesz put Merrimack down by one. D'Youville rallied to go up by four later on in the set. Down by four, the Warriors scored three straight points to cut the lead once again down to one. Both teams traded points for the duration of the second set. D'Youville would end up taking down set two.
Merrimack found themselves up by three early on in the third set. D'Youville countered with three straight points to tie the set at six. D'Youville would then jump on a long run that put them up by eight.
Sage Gatling stopped the run with a kill. D'Youville would end up taking the third set 25-17.
The the jump, both teams traded points back and forth.
Zyshonne Lang had a kill to put the Warriors up by two. D'Youville tied the game at 17 later on in the set. After a Merrimack point, D'Youville scored four times in a row to go up three. They would take the set after seven more points were scored.
Notes and Numbers:
Thesz led the team with 15 kills.
Carson Bashford had 41 assists.
Kyle Standage had 11 digs.

The Warriors stay in New York to take on Daemen University on Saturday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
