How It Happened
A packed house in North Andover for the Warriors season opener. It was a capacity crowd at Hammel Court and the scoring started off with each team trading points back-and-forth before Long Beach went on a 7 to 2 run to grab the lead early in the match. The beach would go on to close out set number one with another seven to one run and finish it off 25 to 13.
The second set started with a dominant three points from Long Beach before Merrimack stormed back to tie it up at four. Long Beach would once again take control and never let their lead go, ultimately winning the second set 25 to 16.
The third set was full of energy. It had a little bit of everything. The fans were pumped up and ready to see Merrimack make a run and potentially steal a set against a number two ranked team in the country. However, the beach had other plans. After it was tied up at 11 behind the great play of both
Matthew Motes and
Logan Whitaker, the beach would go on a four to nothing run followed up with a 7 to 2 run to put Merrimack on ice and win the third set 25 to 16, shutting down the match and winning three sets, the zero.
