Merrimack Hires Sciamanna as Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Former Saint Anselm College head lacrosse coach, Michael Sciamanna has been named the head men's lacrosse coach at Merrimack College as announced Friday afternoon by Vice President and Director of Athletics, Jeremy Gibson.

"I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the Merrimack men's lacrosse program," said Sciamanna. "I would like to thank President Hopey and Jeremy Gibson for their support and for putting their faith in me. I look forward to getting to work and continuing to build on an already rich history of success."

Sciamanna is fresh off of leading the Hawks to a Division II national semifinals appearance and owns a career sixty six percent winning percentage in his nine year tenure as head coach at Saint Anselm. Sciamanna has a career 82-42 record having claimed four straight double-digit win seasons including a perfect 10-0 record in Northeast-10 play in 2021. He went on to guide the Hawks to an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament in 2021 and defeated #5 ranked Seton Hill in the first round. Throughout his time as head coach of the Hawks Coach Sciamanna has positioned Saint Anselm as a perennial Division II tournament contender and a nationally ranked squad.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mike and his family to Merrimack", said Gibson. "He has a demonstrated history of success and we are excited to have him leading our program as we enter the MAAC."

Prior to his time at Saint Anselm, Sciamanna was the assistant coach for Endicott College for eight seasons where he served as the offensive coordinator and the ride and clear coordinator. The Gulls were nationally ranked in each of Sciamanna's eight years at Endicott, captured three Commonwealth Coast Conference titles and made four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Prior to his coaching career, Sciamanna played three years of Division I college lacrosse, beginning his career at Wagner College where he led the team in scoring in back to back years. He went on to play at the UMass Amherst where was a key part of their run to the 2006 National Championship game.

Sciamanna also serves as the Director of Elite 100 Lacrosse, a premier recruiting program for college-bound student athletes.

Merrimack College will begin its membership in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on July 1.
