NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After a weekend off, the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team wraps up the 2017 part of the schedule with a home-and-home series against No. 2/2 Boston College. The first game is at the Conte Forum on Friday for a 7 p.m. puck drop, before shifting to Lawler Rink on Saturday for a 4 p.m. start. Friday's game can be watched on ESPN3 with a TV cable subscription.
SATURDAY PROMOTIONS:
- POSTGAME SKATE: Join the Warriors and Santa Claus for a postgame skate with the Warriors, sponsored by Fuddruckers! Free cookies and hot chocolate will be handed out, courtesy of Fuddruckers.
- TOYS FOR TOTS: Fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for Saturday's game for donation as part of Merrimack's participation in the Toys for Tots initiative. Cash donations will also be accepted, and all proceeds will be donated to the Boston Children's Hospital. Those who participate in the donation will receive a free ticket voucher for any future game this season. Toys/cash can be donated to the box office.
Last Time Out:
- Merrimack wrapped up its non-conference slate with a weekend sweep against Princeton on Friday, Nov. 24th and Saturday, Nov. 25th. The Warriors won game one, 1-0, behind a shutout effort of junior goaltender Samantha Ridgewell (Outlook, Saskatchewan), who had 31 saves. Sophomore Mikyla Grant-Mentis (Brampton, Ontario) scored the lone goal, while junior Felila Manu (Anchorage, Alaska) picked up an assist.
- In game two, the Warriors had a 4-1 victory on goals by juniors Katelyn Rae (Courtice, Ontario) and Paige Voight (St. Michael, Minn.), along by the first-career goal freshman Kate Bukolska (Prague, Czech Republic) and an empty netter by Grant-Mentis. Freshman Courtney Maud (Georgetown, Ontario) picked up a pair of assists.
The Warriors:
- Rae leads the team with nine points (6g, 3a), while Voight (2g, 5a) and Grant-Mentis (5g, 2a) each have seven points. Manu has a team-high six assists.
- Ridgewell is tied third nationally with a .941 save percentage. She also sits on top of the rankings among Hockey East goaltenders with a 1.77 goals against average, and is second in conference play with a 1.72 GAA.
- The Warriors are tied for 14th in the USCHO national rankings in scoring defense, allowing just 2.21 goals per game.
- Merrimack has played seven games that have been decided by a single goal so far, going 3-3-0 in those contests.
Last Season/Inside the Series vs. Boston College
- The schools have faced each other eight times overall, with Boston College having control of the series. Last year, the teams met five times, including twice in Merrimack's first-ever postseason appearance in the Hockey East Tournament.
- Voight (1g, 1a) and Grant-Mentis (1g. 1a) each registered two points last year against the Eagles, while junior Annie Boeckers (Otsego, Minn.) (1g) and sophomore Andrea Olson (Stillwater, Minn.) (1a) each had a point in the season-series.
- Ridgewell had three starts last year against the Eagles, while sophomore Léa-Kristine Demers (Repentigny, Quebec) made a pair of starts.
The Eagles:
- The Eagles have qualified for the past seven NCAA Tournaments, including three straight Frozen Fours appearances. They were picked to win the Hockey East in the preseason poll as well.
- Boston College enters the weekend with a 13-1-3 overall record and a 7-0-1 Hockey East record. The Eagles are coming off a 2-0-1 week, defeating Northeastern 7-3 on Tuesday, Nov. 28, before going 1-0-1 in a weekend series with Boston University.
- Daryl Watts has made an impact for the Eagles as a freshman, posting a team-high 44 points (20g, 24a), which is good for the nation's leading scorer. Caitrin Lonergan is second in scoring with 41 points (18g, 23a). Katie Burt has played all 17 games in net for Boston College, boasting a 9.23 save percentage and picking up one shutout.
- The Eagles have the third-ranked offense in the USCHO rankings, averaging 4.35 goals per game, including 4.30 goals during conference play. During Hockey East action, Boston College has allowed just 2.30 goals per game, second best in the conference. The powerplay has a 25.5% conversion rate through 10 conference games
