NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team looks to close out the fall semester on a high note this weekend, taking on #9 Boston College in a home-and-home series beginning Friday, December 7. The Warriors will take the ice at 2 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, with the first puck drop set inside Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Warriors are in a tight contest for a top-four spot in the Hockey East standings; with Northeastern at the top of the leaderboard with 26 points, teams 2-6 are all separated by merely five points. Both Boston College and Merrimack dropped a pair of Hockey East contests last weekend, which makes this weekend's home-and-home that much more important. The #9 Eagles sit in second place with 18 points, while the Warriors dropped to fifth with 13 points.
The two teams met up on October 19, with Boston College skating out of its home barn with a 3-1 victory; the loss was the first of the season for Merrimack.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack hung with the #9 Eagles back on October 19; the first two goals given up came in the final 45 seconds of both the first and second period, which proved to be the difference in the game.
- Through 17 games, the Warriors boast the second-best scoring defense, allowing just 1.65 goals/game.
- Offensively, Merrimack ranks second power play percentage (22.2) and third in special teams (+8).
- Junior Mikyla Grant-Mentis and senior Katelyn Rae combined for five goals and seven total points in the three games played last season against Boston College.
- These are the last two games of the fall semester for the Warriors, with the team's next game coming on January 30 against Princeton.
