DARTMOUTH, MA. – The Merrimack Women's cross country team competed at the UMASS Dartmouth Invitational where they placed 7
th overall in a field of over 40 teams.
How it Happened
The Warriors were led by
Ava Mahoney who navigated the 5k course in 17:48.40 to crack the top 10 with her 6
th place finish. Junior
Maci Chapman was next to cross the line finishing with a time of 18:49.74 to take 38
th place. Not far behind, was senior
Olivia Beaudet who logged a 5k time of 19:06.36, good for 46
th place. Freshman
Olivia Guckian also added crucial points for the Warriors maneuvering the course in 19:27.46 to take 68
th place. Rounding out Merrimack's top five was sophomore
Kristina Ponzio who logged a 5k time of 19:33.98 for 81
st place.
The freshman duo of
Caroline White and
Avaline Fihlman also helped the Warriors to a seventh place finish. White navigated the course in 19:47.21, good for 99
th place with Fihlman right on her heels to take 110
th with her time of 19:52.01.
This meet was against forty-five other teams featuring top division I contenders such as Boston University, UMASS Lowell, Brown, Rhode Island, and Northeastern.
Coaching Spotlight
"The women had a good, solid effort today despite the weather conditions. We were pleased with their team place but our 1 - 5pack is something we need to work on. If we tighten up our pack, we should have a successful season."
