NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team only plays one game this week, facing the University of New Haven on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. from Charger Gymnasium in West Haven, Conn.
Last Time Out:
- The Warriors suffered a Northeast-10 Conference loss on Saturday afternoon at Le Moyne, only the program's third road defeat of the season
- Freshman Mayson Kimball (Webster, N.H.) led all scorers with 20 points, the second 20-point effort of her rookie season. Kimball hit 3-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc, hitting the majority of Merrimack's triples on the afternoon
- Senior captain Cecilia Reyes (Lawrence, Mass.) hit the first bucket of her two-year career in the fourth quarter, connecting on her lone attempt of the afternoon
'Mack Facts:
- Merrimack is currently one game clear of Assumption for firth in the Northeast Division, holding a win over the Greyhounds as well. The top-five programs in the Northeast advance to the NE10 Championship
- Junior Lindsay Werner (Groton, Mass.) maintained her team lead in scoring, averaging over 17 points per game. She is on pace to have the highest scoring average for the program in nine years, while her 47 three-pointers are the second-most in the league
- Junior Karlee Alves (Ellington, Conn.) tied her career high over the weekend, picking up her conference-leading 47th steal of the year. The Ellington native ranks among the top-25 nationwide in steals, while her 6.9 assists per game average leads the conference and is fifth nationwide
- Sophomore Denia Davis-Stewart (Dorchester, Mass.) and freshman Alyssa Casey (Andover, Mass.) anchor the interior for the Navy and Gold. Since returning from injury, Davis-Stewart leads the team in rebounds per game (9.7) and blocks per contest (4.7), while Casey's four double-doubles are the most on the Warriors
The Chargers:
- New Haven has split the first four games of its cross-divisional slate, losing its most recent tilt to No. 7 Bentley. The Chargers hung with the nationally ranked Falcons, falling by 12 points
- The Chargers boast one of the top scorers in the conference in junior Alexandria Kerr, who leads the team with 15.7 points per game. Kerr has hit 21 of New Haven's 52 three-pointers on the year
- New Haven only hits on 24.3 percent of its attempts from deep, the lowest in the NE10
- The Chargers make up for their low shooting percentage by being strong on the glass, averaging 15.2 offensive rebounds per game and totaling 57 more offensive boards then their opponents
The Series:
- Merrimack holds an 10-6 advantage in the all-time series against New Haven through 16 games
- The Warriors carry a two-game winning streak over the Chargers into Wednesday, including an overtime win in West Haven two years ago
