#16 Women’s Lacrosse Sets Sights on Four-Time Champion, Top-Ranked Adelphi in NE10 Semifinals Saturday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After winning its first playoff game in seven years on Wednesday night, the No. 16 Merrimack College women's lacrosse team continues postseason play when it meets four-time defending conference champion and top-seeded Adelphi in the semifinal round of the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday (May 5) morning on Long Island. Game time from Motamed Field is set for 11 a.m., with the winner advancing to Sunday's league title game.

Merrimack in the NE10 Championship:
  • Merrimack is making its 13th appearance in the league tournament, third most in the league, and first since the 2013 season.
  • With its win over New Haven on Wednesday in the quarterfinals, Merrimack reached the semifinal round of the tournament for the 10th occasions and first time since 2011.
  • The Warriors also reached three NE10 Finals, falling to Stonehill on all three occasions (2001, 2005, 2006).
Inside the Series:
  • Adelphi owns a 17-1 record against Merrimack in the all-time series.
  • That lone win came in the first-ever meeting in 2001 (10-9). The Panthers have won 17 straight games over the Warriors since then.
  • Merrimack gave Adelphi a battle during the regular season this year, leading the game at several points in the first half before ultimately falling by six goals, the closest margin of defeat in 12 years.

  • No. 16 Merrimack won its first postseason game in seven years on Wednesday, rallying from an early three-goal deficit and holding off a late rally to upend No. 19 New Haven by a 14-10 score in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship at Merrimack Stadium on Wednesday.   • Merrimack's 14-4 record marks the most wins in a single season in school history, breaking the prior 12-win threshold set in four previous seasons.
  • Merrimack also had a six-game winning streak at one point this year, its longest such streak since the 2010 season when they won 10 in a row. It enters the semifinals on a five-game win streak.
  • The NE10's second-ranked offense enters Saturday averaging 16.17 goals per game, as the Warriors have posted double-digit goal totals all but one of their 18 games. They scored 10-plus goals in 12 straight games, the longest such streak since 2010 when they did so in 14 straight games.
  • On the other end, Merrimack has the fourth-best scoring defense in the league allowing 10.50 goals per game.
  • Junior Amber Feminella leads Merrimack – and ranks second in the NE10 – with 71 goals and ranks fourth overall in the league with 88 points on the season, one shy of the school's single-season record.
  • Sophomore Ally DaCosta is one of the top playmakers in the country, averaging 3.56 assists per game (7th/NCAA) while her 70 total points (13g, 57a) ranks second on the team. She has already set the school's single-season assists record.
  • Freshman Haley Bartlett and junior Bridget Schofield have 66 and 56 points, respectively, with 55 and 45 goals, respectively.
  • Freshman Catherine Mahanna and sophomore Olivia Colletti lead the team with 50 and 48 draw controls, respectively, while freshman Kelsey Daly has caused a team-most 28 turnovers.
  • Junior Lauren Trepaney has played in the last 12 games with 10 starts and owns a .540 SV% and 10.27 GAA, ranking second and fourth in the league in both categories.
Scouting Adelphi
  • The four-time defending conference champions and defending national champions finished the regular season 17-1 and a perfect 13-0 in league play.
  • The Panthers are the only other offense in the league more potent than Merrimack's, averaging 17.67 goals per game while allowing only 7.22 (2nd/NE10).
  • Alison Johnson is the NE10's top scorer by a wide margin with a conference-best 110 points on a league-leading 78 assists, the top such figure nationally. She also has 32 goals.
  • Kole Pollock (70g, 16a, 86pts) is second on the team in scoring with a team-best 70 markers, while Lena Riportell also has more than 50 goals and 60 points total (52g, 8a).
  • Michelle Scannell's 57 draw controls lead the team, while Kaitlyn Stackpole has caused a team-most 45 turnovers and has garnered 44 ground balls.
  • Emma Lemanski owns the most time in net for Adelphi with a 12-0 record in 11 starts. She also ranks in the top-five in the NE10 with a 5.59 GAA and .546 SV%.
