NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women's lacrosse team lost to Iona University this afternoon in a preview of what to come as the Warriors will join the Gaels in the MAAC next season.

Iona got the game started off early with 2 quick back-to-back goals to put the Warriors behind. A green card would provide Merrimack with the opportunity they needed, as
Georgia Parker scored a woman-up goal to make the game 2-1. Things took a turn for the worst for Merrimack as the Gaels would score 3 straight goals off draw control wins to extend their lead to 5-1. Freshman
Lindsay Atkinson stepped up for the Warriors scoring their next 2 goals and putting them back into the game as Iona led 6-3. The 2
nd quarter saw a long scoring drought as each team fought for an opportunity to score. It wouldn't be until 4:24 remaining in the quarter that we would see another goal. Iona capitalized and went on a streak scoring 4 unanswered goals to go into the half up 10-3.
Merrimack had a much better performance defensively in the 3
rd quarter. Atkinson continued to be an offensive force for the Warriors. She would finish a free position shot and then follow up an Iona goal to make the game 11-5. With 1:41 remaining in the quarter,
Sophie Scearbo notched another free position goal for Merrimack, and the Warriors would be down 5 entering the 4
th. The Gaels shut down the Warriors offensively in the last quarter. Iona would get on the board early, then 2 woman-up goals would help extend their lead and put Merrimack away for good. The Gaels defeated the Warriors by a final score of 14-6.
